Hannah I signed petitions on change.org and now they've started calling and asking for money. The person who called me said I'd signed a petition for TTIP, which I have. I think that's one way of getting around the TPS opt-out system, because you've indirectly given them your details.

Peter A Sussex I too am a member of the TPS and they are making unsolicited calls. These people need to be sued.

Cristy Cunnick This phone number is owned by Ethicall www.ethicall.org.uk. Ethicall Ltd are a telephone fundraising company based in Bristol who successfully works for a number of registered charities. Telephone Fundraising is a very effective, long standing mechanism for our charity clients and on average returns £2 for each £1 invested by the charity concerned. Ethicall has raised over £20 million for our charity clients in the last 4 years and we are incredibly proud of this. We are paid on a per contact basis and are not incentivised; therefore it is not in our interest to be pushy, rude and anything but customer focused when speaking to existing and potential supporters. We want to represent our charities well and protect their reputations at all times. We display our number when calling on behalf of our charity clients for transparency, so if people want to know who called they can dial 1471 and listen to us explaining who we are and what we do. This is not an industry standard and most telephone companies do not do this so they cannot be identified and you never know who has called you. We only call between the hours of 10am and 9pm. We may attempt your number a few times, but this will be at different times of the day because we recognize you won’t always be available the first time we call. We rotate your numbers attempting you during the day, the evening and at the weekend, but never after 9pm or before 10am. (If you do find this is not the case please do let us know and we will immediately investigate). We adhere to the Codes of Practice of the Institute of Fundraising and are also members of the Fundraising Standards Board where we pledge to adhere to the Fundraising Promise committing to treat the public with respect, fairness, honesty and clarity in all our money raising activities. As part of this we also sign up to having an independent, robust and transparent complaints process.please see www.frsb.org.uk. The FRSB welcome complaints from the public and this can be done through this website. Many of our clients are also members of the FRSB too. W e also strictly adhere to TPS regulations. To explain, we always ensure that our specially selected Cold Lists have the necessary opt ins to allow us to call you, from our third party suppliers. On the odd occasion where mistakes happen we investigate them thoroughly with these third parties. Sometimes there are crossovers and someone can opt in to several charities (most often this is over the internet) at the same time, therefore resulting you appearing on several of our clients lists – however this is something we are working on to eliminate. On our warm lists we call people who already have some form of relationship with the charity concerned already, therefore in most cases we do not need to TPS before calling. That said we are often are over cautious and TPS more than we are obliged to. I hope this helps reassure, explain that we are legitimate and follow guidelines and procedures as appropriate. We also respect that not everyone likes to be called and if this is you please just tell us when we call and we will immediately remove you from the list. However we also ask that you do understand that our fundraising role is vital for our clients because it does work in recruiting new supporters and raising more money for all these invaluable causes. Cristy Cunnick, Managing Director, Ethicall Ltd www.ethicall.org.uk

SYLVIA FOXCROFT Had a call yesterday from someone who said they were from the Alzheimer's Society and would we like to set up a direct debit. I said that I would talk to my husband but in the meantime could they send me paperwork. No, was the answer as it would cost money. Fair enough. Said they could ring the following day (today) and speak to my husband. They rang today at 6.30 and 7.30 but we didn't take the calls as we were busy but I did ringback and found this number. Checked it out on the internet and low and behold it turns out it's this Ethicall company. They have just rung again and I asked if they were Ethical and the girl said they were and I have told them that I am registering a complaint on this site and with the Alzheimer's Society.

S. de Wolfe If you're a supporter or a member of the RSPB, or if you recently completed their bird watch survey, be aware that the RSPB have passed all your details on to Ethicall. Ethicall pays no heed to TPS, they told me they were 'exempt' from TPS rules because the RSPB have 'given their permission' for Ethicall to pester me by phone.I believe the Alzheimers Assoc. has also passed all thei supporters details on to ethicall as well.

S. de Wolfe Cristy Cunnick you just don't get it do you. Whether you're ethical and honest or whatever the hell, to phone people when they're registered with TPS is a disgrace. Many of the supporters of the sort of charities you fund-raise for are in the older generation. The mere fact that they're registered with TPS is probably for very good reasons, as in my case - I'm disabled and partially sighted, I have trouble answering the phone. I only want calls from family and friends.Your representative informed me that Ethicall are 'exempt' from TPS rules - what? Are you mad? Phoning people on a cold-call basis is just plain wrong, I don't care how much money you're busy raising. I have now left the RSPB and will never support them again. So please explain to me how your nuisance calls to me benefitted that organisation. I also find your methods very suspect - you are phoning people claiming you're representing certain charities they are involved with. Many people then assume you ARE from that charity, they don't realise you're an independent fund-raising company. I am a former freelance journalist. I intend to inform everyone I know, every publication I was involved with, every charity I support, of your activities. You should be ashamed of yourself.
