6th December 2008 - Same as others have said above. (A woman saying "I am phoning on behalf a 6 year old boy... ") I put the phone down on my desk while still connected leaving her talking to herself for a while. Bizarrely, she doesn't withhold her number; 1471 and a quick search with google got me here.
Music in background, suddenly stopped. The patter goes: "I'm phoning on behalf of a six year old boy from Wiltshire. Don't know if you've seen him on the BBC news?" - response: "No" - "Sorry but we're just phoning people from the phone book" "Oh are you, well actually, we're registered with the telephone preference service, so you shouldn't have called us." And they hung up. This is a ruse I suspect.
Same as other comments, a 6 year old boy from Wiltshire needing treatment in New York and would I sell raffle tickets?
Caller said he was calling about Callum from Wiltshire. "Maybe you have seen the item on the BBC News today?" I told him I was not able to take the call. He apologised and hung up. We have signed for telephone preference and hope this line will be investigated and stopped.
Called today about Callum needing money to fly to NY for treatment unavailable in the UK, Searching on web, I can only find reports of a different Callum with many of the same details, dating back to the middle of last year, and he was supposed to have died if he didn't receive treatment immediately!
Caller started straight away by saying that he was calling on behalf of a 6 yo called callum......i didn't give him the chance to finish what he was saying as i blew my top at being cold called on a Friday evening... i suspect this is a con.
Someone called about Calum needing an operation overseas but told them they shouldn't really be dialing random numbers out of the phone book and asking for money.
Called about a young boy named Callum suffering with a rare form of terminal cancer. Trying to raise money. Gave some story about the boy being in the papers and the BBC news but it just doesn't tie up with any records I can find! Wouldn't trust this one. I fobbed him off by telling him our number was registered with the TPF (Telephone preference service) and that he was breaking the law by calling my private number. Well it certainly stopped him in his tracks.
Called about a 6 year old boy called Callum who had terminal cancer and wanted money to help him
